As a member of a municipal charter commission (the "commission") our legally charged duties are simply stated:
(1) File the necessary campaign expense reports under the Ohio election laws.
(2) Qualify by taking the oath of office as a member of the commission.
(3) Approve a draft of a charter that is to be submitted to the electors for their approval or rejection.
(4) Fix the date for holding the election at which the charter is to be submitted to the electors, which election must be held within one year from the date of the commission's election.
While the legal duties are easily stated, the actual work and responsibility of commission is indeed complex.
